Stakeholders are individuals, groups, or organizations that will impact or be impacted by the project. A key activity early in the project lifecycle is to identify stakeholders and assess their potential impact on the project.
Identification
- Identify who is important to the project success
- Identify the stakeholders with potential to influence the project, positive or negative
- Determine how best to involve the stakeholders
Assess Stakeholder Connection to the Project
There are 3 possible relationships the stakeholders may have with the project.
- Interest – the degree to which the project impacts a particular stakeholder. What stake does the stakeholder have in the project?
- Influence- to what extent will the stakeholder be involved with the project and the ability to make decisions that will impact the project
- Support – what is the stakeholder’s attitude toward the project? Will the stakeholder support or oppose the project?
