WBS Work Packages

WBS Work Packages are created as part of decomposition of the project requirements and deliverables.

A work package is a group of activities in a project that are required to produce a deliverable. Work packages are the smallest unit of work in a Work Breakdown Structure or WBS.

A typical work package includes:

  • Objectives and deliverables to be produced
  • Detailed scope of work and detailed tasks
  • Required resources, including human, technological, and financial
  • How long will it take to complete
  • How much it will cost to produce the work package
  • What resources are required to produce the work package
  • Quality and performance metrics
  • Risk management plans
  • Dependencies
