Do You Understand Your Project?

Ask the question another way, how well do you know your project?

Not only is it important that you understand your project, but it is also important that your project stakeholders have confidence that you know what it is they want the project to accomplish.

Your answers to the following questions will demonstrate your understanding of the project and its desired outcomes. Be sure to include the answers in your project charter.

These seven questions are sometimes referred to as the W5H2 questions.

  1. Why is this project needed?
  2. What work will the project produce?
  3. When will the work be completed?
  4. Who is responsible for the project?
  5. Where are they organizationally located?
  6. How will the project work be accomplished?
  7. How much of each resource (people, hardware, software, materials) is required to accomplish the project work?
