Here are the 6 basic components of Monitor and Control:

Execute The Project Baseline as Planned
Your role as project manager is to execute the project activities, acquire and assign resources, orient and train new team members, maintain the project schedule, and assure the quality of the project deliverables.

Monitor Project Progress
Measure progress against the project baseline using Gantt or PERT charts.

Manage Changes to Project Requirements, Quality, and Schedule
Implement effective and rigorous change control procedures to manage any changes to the project baseline. Seek sponsor approval to changes when needed, reject changes when necessary, and document everything. Update project documentation and baselines as needed.

Manage Changes to Project Risks
This includes adding new risks to the risk register when necessary.

Maintain Project Documentation In a Project Notebook
Document all project events as a record that will be used to produce project reports.

Communicate Project Status
Report project status to the project team and all stakeholders.
