Email is a powerful tool that enables near instantaneous communications both inside and outside an organization.  It is a quick and casual way to communicate.  Email allows for mass communication with the push of a button, and it creates and stores a permanent written record of all emails.

The good news is everyone uses it.  The bad news is everyone uses it.

Used properly, email can enhance your career.  Misused, it will destroy your or someone’s reputation or career in a heartbeat.

Yes, some email applications have tools that attempt to recall a message, but they do not work across all platforms and will not work if the message has been opened and read.

Before You Hit Send

  • Review the message
  • Think about it
  • Take a walk or have a cup of coffee
  • Don’t send the email if you do not want to read it on a witness stand in court
